It’s difficult to understand just how much more powerful a dog’s sense of smell is compared to ours. With scent receptors that outnumber humans by 50 to 1, a omeronasal organ in their mouth that helps dogs literally taste scents, and the ability to smell scents from either their left or right nostrils, dog’s can not only detect scents better than humans but better than any of the human-created scent detecting instruments we’ve built by a factor of 1,000.
