Skin Biopsies

What are Skin Biopsies?
If you have received a skin exam and we see something unusual, we may ask you to stay for a procedure called a skin biopsy.
This simple procedure removes cells or tissue from your body so that a pathologist can take a closer look at the cell tissue under a microscope to check for damage or disease.
Biopsies can be done on all parts of the body. In almost all cases of suspected skin cancer, a biopsy is the only test that can confirm if it is cancer.
We understand skin biopsies can be scary. Mobile Skin Solutions’ goal is to make you as comfortable as possible by bringing our office into your community in our new, state of the art, custom van.

Three main types of skin biopsies are:
- Shave biopsy in which a razor is used to remove a small section of the top layers of skin.
- Punch biopsy in which a circular tool is used to remove a small section of skin including deeper layers.
- Excisional biopsy in which a small knife is used to remove an entire lump or an area of abnormal skin, including a portion of normal skin down to or through the fatty layer of skin.
